We Love Our Volunteers!
Volunteering with Stable Hands
Stable Hands Volunteers give their hearts and hands to help build dreams and change lives. Volunteers are the backbone of Stable Hands and are essential for the safe, effective operation of our therapeutic horsemanship program for children, adults and Veterans.
Some of the roles of a volunteer include:
Tacking up horses
Warming up horses
Side walking with riders who need special assistance
Horse leading for riders who need special assistance
We offer four levels of volunteer training
Level I – Sidewalker – duties include assisting riders before, during and after lessons; arena set up and take down; keep tack trailer clean and organized; clean tack
Level II – Introductory Horse Leader – duties include grooming, tacking, leading of certain horses
Level III – Horse Leader with Exceptions – duties include warm up of horses, grooming & tacking, horse leading during lessons & care of horse after lessons.
Level IV – Advanced Horse Leader – All of the above involving any horse, any rider, anytime.
And, we welcome volunteers to support us in our administrative office as well as those who wish to help with fundraising and special events.
Who Can Volunteer?
We ask that you be able to walk outdoors on varied terrain/ground for 60 minutes at a time, willing to commit two to four hours per week for an eight week session, be comfortable working around horses and enjoy working with people.
If you would like to volunteer and the physical demands might be too much, we can always use volunteers cleaning tack, helping with fund raising and in the office. Stable Hands welcomes volunteers of 14 years of age or older.

The Fall Volunteer Training is being done in a new format this year to incorporate some great Stable Hands team building, mentorship and PATH regulated standard training skills. The day will include some hands on practice with actual riders, a handbook review and open book test. Lunch and activities will be provided with a chance to meet with other volunteers and walk the trail. Seasoned volunteers will have the opportunity to check off training skills for advancement. You can find the Volunteer Training Manual below with a printable quiz and answers. You may study ahead and bring it along, or take it all in on August 31st. An alternate date is scheduled for Thursday Sept 2 for those who cannot attend. Please contact us at 530-842-3082 for any questions or to R.S.V.P.
Hope to see you there!
